Does anyone besides me buy them?

I have to admit that our local paper is pretty bad.

For years, we had a morning paper and an afternoon paper. Whatever news was breaking locally, one or the other would have it covered.

In late 1999, they decided to merge the two papers. At the time, I thought it was a good idea.

Boy, was I ever wrong!

Most of the reporters, who had been here a while, either left or were let go. And the local, in house printing was moved 60 miles away, which meant earlier deadlines.

The result? Inexperienced writers who come here from the local University, padding their resume before moving on.

Even for local events, it takes two days before they appear in our paper. Not very good coverage if you were looking to find out about that house fire or robbery and God forbid if you want to know how the University or high school team fared last night.

To be honest, the only reason I still subscribe to what has become a local 'rag' is that they carry two crossword puzzles every day, which gives me something to do on my breaks at work.

I'm planning on retiring this year and the first expense I will cut will be the newspaper. I can get the whole paper online for $10.00 a month, and with the paper now costing $60.00 a month, I will be saving $50.00.

It's sad... I've always enjoyed that fresh newspaper with a cup of coffee every morning on the weekends. It won't be the same sitting in front of my computer.

Times change and life goes on -

sometimes a bit less fulfilling.

70 degrees the last 3 days.

After weeks of crappy weather, it has been wonderful.

BUT

This is March and therefore the weather is subject to fluctuations.

That's a given.

So - goodbye 70s, hello 50s... and wind, and rain.

Ah, life in the midwest.

(sighs)

We will appreciate the warmer weather when it returns, right?

On March 31st, the vaccine will be available to everyone in my state 16 and older.

Best case scenario:

Everyone complies and we can really all start getting back to normal.

Worst case scenario:

Stubborn people refuse and this living nightmare drags on and on.

For the first time in many, many years I tried to watch Saturday Night Live.

After about 15 minutes, I gave up and turned the channel.

Only one joke was half way funny:

"What do you call a lesbian dinosaur? A Lickapuss."

How does this show stay on the air?

I had some boiled eggs, toast with apple butter, milk & orange juice for breakfast.

Did some stretching.

I am now getting ready to take out the rubbish, because it is sunshiny, 66 degrees outside and I am itching to get out the door and enjoy!

It is spring in all it's glory and I'm going to get me some of that.

I am overdosing on basketball today.

I have a feeling this will go down as a lost weekend.

But what a way to go.

Yesterday I made a comment about shenanigans being permitted on St. Patrick's Day.

Mentor commented I had forgotten Halloween.

On Halloween, you have the option of trick or treat.

On St. Patrick's Day, there is only one option and that is shenanigans.

One other observation, unrelated to shenanigans or trick or treat:

Three people were killed in our capitol city over a disagreement over the $1,400.00 stimulus check.

When I was a young man, here in my hometown, a gas station attendant was killed during a robbery of $25.00.

One could say, trying to be thoughtlessly humorous, that the value of life has increased with inflation.

To me, it only shows that people still don't value human life where money, no matter how little, is concerned.

Sadly, some things do not seem to change.
