Thursday, February 25, 2021, 7:25:15 PM- Karma - work edition
We clock in/out at work through an app now. It's pretty simple. Last week a woman at work told me she had been working for a couple of hours when she realized she had forgotten to clock in. I thought that was pretty funny and laughed. BUT It's not funny when you yourself forget to clock in and don't realize you haven't until it's quitting time. I wonder how many employees will be laughing after I've told on myself? Karma can sometimes be a real bitch.

You find the perfect picture you want to save off the internet. But first, you want to save the picture you're looking at - you can always go 'back' to get it. Wrong! It's not there any more and no matter how many times you try to search for it, you can't find it. Arrrrrrrrrgh!

I've decided to make my 5 alarm homemade chili. It will burn all the way through you. Which reminds me of something I remember from the t.v. show 'The Big bang Theory': Sheldon & Amy were walking up the stairs and Sheldon goes into a monologue about the human sphincter. He pretty much stated that, since it sometimes burns when you go to do a #2 after eating spicy food, that it proves your asshole has a sense of taste. I'll keep that in mind on my next bathroom visit after I've finished enjoying my home cooked meal.

Today I'm making pancakes. Not really a big deal, except for the syrup: 1 cup water 1 cup sugar 2 tablespoons Hershey's Cocoa powder Pinch of salt Heat on stove & pour over pancakes - It's like eating chocolate pancakes. My Mom used to make this for us when we were kids. A delightful experience.

I took my new car into the dealership for an oil change Friday. I drove in, they took the car and I went in to the waiting area. When your car is finished, the person who checked you in comes to the waiting area to let you know it's time to go. So I waited. And waited. And waited. When I saw someone who had come in after me leave, I got up and started to go ask if there was a problem. I happened to look out the window and saw what looked like my car sitting in the parking lot. So I went outside, walked up to the car and could see from a newspaper I had left on the passenger seat that it was indeed my car. I walked through the outside door to the service area and asked someone (not the person who checked me in) why my car was sitting out in the parking lot. If it was finished, why didn't someone come to get me? Well, after a quick check of my paperwork, which somehow had been filed away, the apologies started. It seems a 'newbie' couldn't find my check in person so they parked the car outside. Then went to lunch. My check in guy wouldn't look me in the eye. He did some paperwork on his computer and, without looking up said there would be no charge for the oil change and told the other person there to get my keys. He never apologized. The other guy apologized twice as he handed me my keys. I turned around, walked out the door, got into my car and drove away. Sure, I was a little pissed at having waited an extra hour before I got my car, BUT Getting a free oil change and watching some people either grovel or get pissed and knowing the 'newbie' was about to get chewed out for his ineptitude - well, that just made it all good. How was your Friday?

One of the problems with being an old coot is trying to keep up with new technology. I purchased a new car last summer and I'm very happy with it, even though I still haven't figured everything out on it yet. Two days ago I got quite the scare. I was going to work and, having already used the remote start function (from my phone! Very Star Trekky to me. lol), I was ready to hop into a warmed up car. Nope. My car wasn't running and when I climbed in and fired her up, all was fine, but on my way into work I noticed my check engine light remained on. Crap! So I went to work, then drove home with that little light still glaring at me. No other lights came on and the car functioned normally. The first thing I did coming into my place was get on the computer and start checking for problems associated with the light. My owners manual gave me a clue, so I went to my old buddy Youtube to look at videos concerning my difficulty. I found something simple and decided to give it a try yesterday. Fingers crossed, I then got into my car and fired it up. No check engine light. What did I do? Tightened the gas cap. It seems that on today's cars, that is a function that keeps the system running smoothly. When I was first driving, if you lost or damaged your gas cap, you put a rag in the hole to block it and drove on until you found a replacement. Not any more. As with everything else, technology has made something more complicated. I wonder if those faceless pencil pushers thought it would be funny to scare the shit out of someone driving in sub-freezing temperatures when they designed their system? Another instance of my falling behind modern times. ~

In my town, people are freaking out over the last storm that dropped 9 inches of snow. In what came to be known as the Blizzard of '78, 12 inches of snow shut the town down for three days - some areas for over a week. The January Ice Storm of '05 had over 60,000 residents here without electricity for up to a week (6 1/2 days for me). Having lived through both of those, only 9 inches of snow and having electricity is a 'ho-hum' moment for me. ~

We received 9 inches of snow here on Monday. So When I got up today, I knew I would have to clear my car off. That's a given. But I didn't think I would have to break out my snow shovel to clear a path to the mailbox and shovel off the front and rear entrances. I pay rent and that's the sort of maintenance that is included in the money I pay each month. And one strip up and down the parking lot is piss poor plowing, especially when they plow a foot of it up behind my car. The three day weekend is over... welcome to a Monday kind of Tuesday.

... and here it comes: We received a couple of inches of snow this morning and the weather people here are predicting (I'm not kidding) 11 to 13 more inches of the white stuff. I am NOT a big fan of shoveling or driving with snow. Maybe, just maybe, I'll get a snow day on Tuesday. One can hope! ~
