There is still a lot of unfounded fear out there in America. An old friend posted a picture on Facebook Saturday of (supposedly) immigrants at the Texas border wear t-shirts that read: Please let us in President Biden. The t-shirts all looked brand new, so MAYBE it could have been real or maybe it could have been staged. I don't know. What bothered me was this old friend worried about the illegal immigrant problem as if it were happening outside our city limits in a small town in Indiana. I asked this friend if he were worried these people might get into the country and take all of those menial, low paying jobs that most Americans don't seem to want, or If he considered them a threat because they were not white. This person, like so many others, need to realize that America is not (and hasn't been for quite a while) a country overflowing with a white majority any more. America is supposed to be the land of opportunity, regardless of race or religion. If you're trying to shut your borders to keep non-white people out, then you're living in the past and not facing reality. It is sad to me that so many white Americans feel this way. Life goes on and it's better to live it color blind than to live in the past, choking on fear. I don't care what color my neighbors are, as long as they're (like me) trying to live the American dream. ~

I got my second Covin-19 shot Friday. I was a bit apprehensive because it was to happen an hour before I went in to work. If I had any side effects, I sure didn't want them happening there. Other than my arm being sore for a few hours, nothing adverse occurred. Whew! I blame all of those people on social media for making me nervous. The only effect that has lasted is one of feeling giddy. I'll take that one happily!

I have been having problems with my hip lately. Yes, I know it's another in a long list of things that happen to you as you get older. I was having trouble sleeping on my side and would wake up with pain in my hips. Two choices for remedy: Spend $1,000.00 or more for a new mattress, or buy a leg pillow. It's not like I don't have the money, I just thought I'd try a simpler approach first. The leg pillow has been a Godsend! It's comfy and I'm back to sleeping peacefully again. I'm happy I listened to the practical side of my brain.

As a young man in my twenties, many years ago, I asked a professor at the local university, while sitting in a bar, what he thought was the meaning of life. This distinguished man of letters was quick with his reply: "Procreation". He then asked the bartender to put a baseball game on the t.v. At the time, I thought his reply was stated in jest, so I let it go. All of these years later, I sometimes think about that day. Is procreation all we are meant to accomplish in life? What about art? Love? But when you think about it, I've heard countless times how people describe their greatest achievement was holding their newborn in their arms. Life trumps everything else we do in our time on this earth. So I'm sure now that a one word reply years ago is one of the most meaningful things I've heard in my life. The old man was correct. ~

Due to a power outage, I lost my t.v. and internet for 17 hours. I watched some t.v. on my phone last night, then went to bed. Today, I swept and dusted my place, then had a cup of tea and read the newspaper. And now that I'm back online I have, as promised, faster internet free for my inconvenience. All things considered, not a bad ordeal. Now I'm off to wash my car free of winter salt and sludge before it rains again. Peace!
