well i was going to do a thoughtful blog, but just heard on the radio, hold your hats!

i used to be a news junkie, couldnt miss it at least 3 times a day. I got away from that, and now find the news incredibly hard to watch. The past 24 hrs have shown me that still lurking inside of me is a news junkie! I have been watching CNN for hrs, and just when i think im fed up with it all they kept me glued with another new tidbit. I have turned the tv off! and am now back to a better obsession, PORN!

Socrates and the Test of Three

Keep this philosophy in mind the next time you either hear or are about to repeat a rumor.

In ancient Greece, Socrates was widely lauded for his wisdom.

One day the great philosopher came upon an acquaintance who ran up to him excitedly and said, "Socrates, do you know what I just heard about one of your students?"

"Wait a moment," Socrates replied. "Before you tell me I'd like you to pass a little test. It's called the Test of Three."

"Three?"

"That's right," Socrates continued. "Before you talk to me about my student let's take a moment to test what you're going to say. The first test is Truth. Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is true?"

"No," the man said, "actually I just heard about it."

"All right," said Socrates. "So you don't really know if it's true or not. Now let's try the second test, the test of Goodness. Is what you are about to tell me about my student something good?"

"No, on the contrary..."

"So," Socrates continued, "you want to tell me something bad about him even though you're not certain it's true?"

The man shrugged, a little embarrassed.

Socrates continued. "You may still pass though, because there is a Third test -- the filter of Usefulness. Is what you want to tell me about my student going to be useful to me?"

"No, not really."

"Well," concluded Socrates, "if what you want to tell me is neither True nor Good nor even Useful, why tell it to me at all?"

The man was defeated and left, ashamed. This is the reason Socrates was a great philosopher and held in such high esteem.

It also explains why he never found out that Plato was banging his wife.

i didnt have any beer this afternoon and no car. i couldnt talk my totally hug over friend into going to get some. then out of the blue my cousin shows up, so i asked if hed go get me a 12, off he went. what i thought was him coming back was actually roo, coming home to drop off beer.
lol so i now have 36 in the fridge.
im ready to go!

I have to say when i read amys blog this morning i sat in shock for the longest time. why? maybe im naive, you hear about it but you dont ever think its going to happen to you.
I have also known this individual although never really spoke to him. i couldnt get past the poor me attitude, not my thing at all.
I will however say that i have him on msn, though never speak to him and today is the first day in well over a year that he hasnt logged in. hmmmm wonder why?

so many of you have had enough! hell i even attacked NN needlessly tonight. i think we all need to take a deep breath. step back. and think.
why are we here?
if the fun is gone then please take a break. drama has overtaken our fun. are you going to allow it?? im not. the ppl and the community are right now restructuring. growing pains. can we all remember why we came here and stayed? if you cant then it is time to move on. if you think you might be able to, then take a big step back and remember this is the internet, no matter how close you have come to ppl. take a break, breathe, remember life before NN, then come back refreshed.
we have a great community (as exhibited by all that i have listened to tonight) but really folks let call this NN puberty, the site HAS changed. for better or worse its up to us to nurture it into adulthood...

my allergies are killing me tonight!
on a high note tomowrrow is back to school shopping for the kids, im on the final count down!
