Something that most people don't even think about today:
Pop-up ads.
I received my first pc as a Christmas present over 20 years ago.
It was a Compaq and I had lots of trouble with it the 2 years I had it.
I am being serious when I tell you that pop up ads were so bad at that time that your screen would literally fill up with pop up ads and cause your computer to crash.
I don't know who invented the pop up blocker, but that person should have been given some sort of hero's medal, for they saved many, many people lots of money in computer related repair bills.
So the next time you go to surf the 'net, take a second to thank the mysterious, anonymous person who saved us all
by inventing the pop up blocker.

Tuesday, January 3, 2023, 7:21:01 PM- Tragedy repeats
I was watching the pro football game Monday night when tragedy occurred.
I saw Damar Hamlin make the tackle, stand up and then fall face down on the field.
By now, everyone knows he suffered a heart attack and is in the hospital in intensive care.
My prayers go out to him and his family.
As events were unfolding, I remembered another tragedy I watched on my television in 1971.
The team I root for, the Chicago Bears, were playing the Detroit Lions at Tiger Stadium in Detroit one October Sunday afternoon.
Late in the game, with Chicago leading 28-23, Detroit had the ball and was moving down the field.
Chuck Hughes, a wide receiver, had caught a 32 yard pass. Two plays later, he collapsed on his way back to the huddle.
He was rushed to the hospital, but died within the hour of a heart attack.
I thought of all of this while watching Hamlin being attended to on the field and eventually being carried away by ambulance.
One more thought struck me as I watched events unfold:
In 1971, after Hughes was carried away, the game resumed.
Today, the game was suspended indefinitely.
I hope we have transcended from a 'business as usual' society to one who realizes that some things are more important than a game.

Monday, January 2, 2023, 8:31:29 PM- Popeyes
I took my car in today to have the rear defogger fixed. The connection on one side had come loose and I couldn't reach it.
While I was waiting, a young lady came in to set up an appointment to have her vehicle serviced.
She was wearing yoga pants that were clinging to the crack in her rear end.
Sure, I took a gander while her back was turned to me.
The funny part was watching all of the men standing around,
some customers, some employees,
try to get a good look without being obvious.
A good time was had by all in attendance.

Why can't you trust atoms?
Because they make up everything.
I told you it was a groaner.

If variety is the spice of life,
does that make a regular routine the bran muffin?

Thursday, December 29, 2022, 8:06:49 PM- And so it begins
I forgot to mention that I retired a week ago.
It was the last day of the pay period and a winter storm was about to arrive here,
so I said "Fuck It!", left a message for my supervisor where he would definitely find it, and left.
I didn't bother calling the owner because we don't get along at all.
Since then I have not set my alarm clock when I go to bed.
I eat, shower and am online at the usual times.
I watch a little more t.v., but still read, do my daily cross words and work out the same.
Two main differences:
I now take long walks.
And, most importantly, I no longer feel any job related stress.
I have arrived at the summit and plan on staying there.
