Thursday, November 7, 2013, 6:55:50 PM- Just a song
No pearls of wisdom today, and no funny stories. Just a song that I hadn't heard in a long time.
Don't care if you like it or not... this is MY blog, not yours. If you like it that's fine. Glad to make you smile. If you don't, then "go ye forth and multiply"... with yourself.
Writing letters is a lost art. In the days before the internet and cell phones, people wrote letters. Talking long distance from your home phone (now called a land line) was very expensive, so you only called family and loved ones on holidays and birthdays. In between you wrote to each other. I remember fondly the anticipation of picking up the mail and finding a hand written cherished letter from someone. Those days are all but gone now... not fast enough any more. Why take the time to gather your thoughts and write them down when you can text or email instead?
The last correspondence on a regular basis was with my Mother. After my Father died, she remarried and moved to another town. With me working afternoons, it was hard to talk on the telephone during the week, so we wrote letter to one another. I still have them now, 12 years after my Mother has passed. I have on Sister alive, and we talk on the phone occasionally, but we don't write to one another. It's a little sad... another passing of a different time, a different culture. (sighs)
