Thursday, February 6, 2014, 7:00:00 PM- A Passing Memory
I heard this last night on the drive home from work... boy, did it take me back.
After I split up with the love of my life (two weeks before we were to marry), I can still remember how rough it was, and I remember sitting in a bar thinking the same things they talk about in the song: not why we broke up or whose fault it was, but just how lonely I was, how much I missed being with her, wanting to touch her and make things right again. God, I wanted to call her and hear her voice. Knowing that this time there was no going back is what hurt me to my core.
A lot of years have passed since that time. You learn how to numb the pain and accept what neither of you wanted to happen, but HAD to happen between you. You learn how to move on and live your life... even if there's a hole in your soul that can never be filled. 36 years. A lot of women since then. None have come close to making me as happy as I was for just five minutes with her. I'll always think of her from time to time, remembering what we once shared, and how truly happy I once was.
There are times even now when I still want to make that call so much I can't help but cry.
I'm all right. Life goes on. I'm reletively happy.

Wednesday, February 5, 2014, 6:44:36 PM- Time well spent?
When I was growing up in the 50's - 60's, Saturdays meant going downtown. Go see a movie at one of our 3 movie theaters, then grab some fries and a coke before heading home... riding both ways on the city bus.
Here in my state in the midwest, one of the major city's t.v. station had a late Saturday afternoon program where they showed old movie classics: The Marx Brothers, Laurel and Hardy, W.C. Fields, Humphrey Bogart, Wallace Beery, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers and many more stars from the 30's.
I didn't realize for a long time how lucky I was to grow up when I did... I was getting a right proper cinematic upbringing seeing the old with the new.
A byproduct was the music. Sure, I was raised on Doo-Wop, then The Beatles, plus my Dad played Bluegrass with his band and I was introduced to classical music in school. But I have always had a love of those old songs from the 20's, 30's and 40's as well. From crooners like Rudy Vallee to Big Band music. I love ALL types of music... you can't lock me into just one genre.
Yesterday I posted an example of a type of song that pops into my head from long ago when I'm happy.
Today, it's a little ditty that I sometimes sing at work when I'm alone doing some menial task. I hope you enjoy it too:

Tuesday, February 4, 2014, 6:52:23 PM- Trucks and cars...
I saw a poll on Yahoo last weekend that stated that women think guys are sexy when they drive a truck. Second in their opinion was if they drove a sports car. SUV's were down at the bottom of the list... sedans even beat them out.
Men thought women were sexiest driving a sports car, followed by sedans. Women driving trucks barely beat out SUV's.
Not my opinions, just passing the knowledge along.
I got my car back today and it runs like a dream. After driving an old pickup all weekend, the ride felt like a luxury car, too. lol
It's turned out to be a good Tuesday so far, even if we are predicted to recieve 5 to 10 inches of snow in the next 24 hours.
I'd rather be driving my front wheel drive car instead of a big, burly 4 speed truck when it hits.
