As the old saying goes: It's not the heat, it's the humidity.

83 degrees wouldn't ordinarily be considered hot... actually quite comfortable.

But when the humidity rises above 75%, it is well over 90 degrees in what they now call "real feel".

It makes for interesting patterns of going about one's daily routine. I daresay that slow but steady is the norm right now.

It's what you say when someone misses your point.

Examples:

No matter what you've said, someone has to try to top you. "Yeah, that's great, but this is better."

When you express an opinion (and I always start by saying "This is just my opinion" and a person will say "you're wrong", then give another (their) opinion, which I'm sure they believe is gold. It's like they're trying to bait you into an argument.

My opinions are just that. If you agree with me that's great. If not, all the persuading in the world will not change my opinion, so why waste my time and your energy trying?

And the real amateurs will further try to goad you into an argument by berating you if you don't agree with them.

When I'm in public, a lot of people lose interest in talking with me because I change the subject a lot. I think you can figure out why.

I'm not the smartest guy in the world (although I do have an I.Q. of 155). I try to look at both sides of something before making up my mind. Too bad so many people simply go by whatever their friends like.

Such is life.

Before I woke up this morning, I had a dream where I was at a flea market. I found some really cool mirrored sunglasses and tried them on. I walked up to the buxom lass working there. She was kneeling on the floor putting up stock. I told her I liked the shades and wanted her opinion on how I looked in them. She said I looked great and wanted to know if I would buy them. I said I would. She said o.k. I'm happy, I said. I'm glad you are she said.

My four day holiday has come to an end.

I enjoyed the time off - I ate too much, drank too much and didn't sleep enough. I watched a few movies in between watching baseball games, got to read the whole paper every day, took long walks and longer drives in my car.

Next holiday is Labor Day, September 4th.

I'm quite sure that after enduring July's heat and the dog days of summer in August, I will be more than ready for a three day weekend by then.

So in between it's back to the routine. I'll just make my upper lip stiff and carry on.
