All of the headlines seem to be bad news. I get it... bad news draws attention. If a newspaper or news channel or web site put out nothing but good news, would anyone pay attention? ?

After three years of living Hell, my wife left me for another man. After another year, she finally filed for a divorce. The very day I was served with the divorce papers, I went out to celebrate and met an angel. We talked for hours and then made love until the morning light crept through the window. Was it the romantic night together or the fact that I had found someone capable of returning my pent up, long ignored passion? Yes, I fell for her hard. I went full bore with the expressions of my affection: Flowers, poetry, gifts. Looking back now over 30 years later, I can see the desperation of a lonely man clinging to hopes of love. Had I but slowed my advances and given her time instead of overwhelming her, things between us might have worked out. At the time, I thought this song was about her and her unwillingness to commit to me. Now I know that it was me who xxxxxx her into an island of seclusion. Hindsight is often 20/20, but foresight is foggy at best.

Dayton. El Paso. Shining more light on issues that need addressing in the U.S.A. Yesterday, in my hometown, a 15 year old kid was arrested outside the high school with a loaded handgun in his pocket. Another student tipped off the police. Thank God. It happened 15 minutes before school let out for the day. Today on Facebook, people my age were talking about the race riots that were going on at all of the schools when we were there in the late 1960s, early 1970s. They were all saying thank God no guns were involved. I pointed out that hallways were patrolled by the police and lockers were searched. On the news they showed what had been confiscated: Guns, knives, baseball bats and even a sword. As our country has sadly grown divided since even before the last Presidential election, the violence is growing and spreading. Something has to be done. Someone or some group has to find a solution to unify us once more, or we shall descend into chaos and be a nation no longer. ~

I am absolutely furious right now. A friend I went to school with posted a picture on Faceboook showing her face after having been beat up by her fiance. I know that posting the picture was a cry for help, but she won't leave. I offered to drop everything and come get her and let her stay with me or one of our friends, but she thinks they can work it out. WTF? If she won't listen to all of her friends and family, I'm afraid the next thing I hear about her will be her obituary. The most frustrating position you can be in is when you know something is wrong and there's not a damn thing you can do about it. I have to leave now. Sitting here only makes me feel worse. ~

A nice little comedy from Woody Allen that involves time travel. The 1920's jazz is good, too. If it ever became reality I would sign up for the trip in a heartbeat. ~

Two more mass shootings in the U.S. which brings the total now to a whopping 250. The lack of respect for human life, authority and morals must stop. Reality check, people! ![]()

A very powerful movie, about racism and redemption. Edward Norton is superb in the lead role. I know my country has a problem, a big problem with racism. My family came from the south and I heard nasty comments about minorities from my early youth. They always confused me, because I was raised in a Chriistian home and attended church 3 times a week. We were taught that all were equal in God's eyes. In the seventh grade, I started into jr. high (or middle school). It was a new school and situated in the heart of the black community. They bussed in we white kids. As a conservative estimate, the school was 75% black. There were lots of riots the three years I was there. 55 years after I started there, there are still four black guys I met there who are my close friends. I never went in for any of that racial 'stuff'. My parents eventually changed too, which always made me happy. This scene still disturbs me: I hope you'll watch the movie someday and learn some things about how we can all change for the better. ~
