I opened up a can of worms with my mail carrier today. I made an order on Thursday and was informed (via email) that said package would be delivered Sunday. So I waited until around 3:00 pm, then checked online to track my package. Somehow, even with me occasionally looking out my window that faces the road, the postal carrier couldn't deliver my package, citing my 'front door/driveway' was inaccessible. Today I waited for my regular postal carrier. I delayed my routine by a half hour so that I could be at the front door when he arrived, which he did a few minutes later than usual (it is Monday, after all). We exchanged brief pleasantries as he handed me my package. He turned to go back to his mail truck and that's when I did it. I said: "You know, this was supposed to be delivered yesterday." His eyebrows shot up in a questioning look. I was prepared to tell him I had waited a good portion of the day for something that didn't happen. That's when he started a rather 'colorful' rant about part-time workers, or 'weekend warriors' as he called them. Of course, I poured fuel on his fire by telling him I had checked online and that the reason my package wasn't delivered was that the person couldn't access my front door. Yikes! Even 'bluer' language poured out. Finally, he apologized profusely and left me stating that this would be reported to his supervisor. I watched him drive away, thinking about how someone was about to get, if nothing else, a good tongue lashing. I also made a mental note to try to make sure that I arrange future deliveries for any day... except Sunday. ~

I saw a cartoon in the newspaper (yes, I still read them) the other day. Basically it said that our future is in front of us, but we can't see it. And our past is behind us and we can see that. Goes right along with what I've been saying since I was 19 years old: Hindsight is 20/20, foresight is foggy at best. Yes, you can quote me. ![]()

States like mine are starting to 'open up' a little. And right along with that, the price of petrol here has jumped 50 cents a gallon... even though I haven't noticed an increase in traffic. ![]()

I've already seen on the news in a couple of states where bars have tried to open against orders. They have been shut down and the owners arrested. Seems like a fitting penalty... put those who act like they're not afraid of a little virus in a crowded jail for awhile. ![]()

I have two t.v.'s in my living room. One is a smart t.v. hooked up to my at&t Uverse DVR. The other is a Firetv hooked up to a regular antenna. With the Uverse t.v., I have over 400 channels. With the Firetv, I have all my local channels, plus a butt load of apps for t.v. shows and movies. This one is in case I lose my Uverse connection. I go to work and go home. I go to the grocery or get gas and go home. If I need exercise, I do pushups, lift hand weights and go for long, solitary walks. Screw this Coronavirus. I am covered and content. ~

Have you ever heard a joke that was hilarious, but when you try to tell it to someone else you can't remember the punchline? Yeah, me neither. ![]()

I bought a cheap antenna for the idea that if the cable goes out I can still watch t.v. on local channels. Of course, after hooking it up and trying it out, it does work. I can get three channels. All of them for the one local PBS station. I will work on this. ~

In 1961, as a nine year old lad, t.v. was everything. Only three broadcast channels: ABC, CBS and NBC. PBS and premium channels like HBO weren't even thought of yet and everything was broadcast in glorious black and white. I found this nostalgic collection of commercials on Youtube. The first one is remarkable for two reasons: It was made in color and it shows something I don't remember seeing, a rear engine Chevrolet Corvair station wagon. If nothing else, the first segment is worth watching, with Dinah Shore singing and some now classic Chevrolet's on display. ![]()

My man Mitch left me a comment on my last blog. He stated that he speaks and writes French, his native language. I had a friend that I lost contact with (unfortunately) who lives in Romania. She told me that she wrote better English than most people whose native language is English BUT she didn't speak a word herself. To me, that is fascinating. I know snippets of terms or phrases in several languages (gleaned from t.v. and movies over the years), but would have a hard time reading them. My freshman year of high school, we had our first opportunity to learn a foreign language. I wanted to take a course in either French or German, but our school only offered (because freshmen were still separate from regular high school at that time, still with 7th and 8th graders) Spanish. Spanish didn't appeal to me then, so I didn't take the class. Hindsight being 20/20, I sometimes feel a little foolish for not taking the course then. Of course, I had no idea the amount of growth there would be of the Latino population in the United States. One of the things on my Bucket List for when I retire: Learn Spanish. ~
