A rainy day. Combine that with a pandemic & an abbreviated looming holiday and it's easy to get into a brooding mood.

I am a senior citizen now and around the holidays it's normal to feel alone when your family has either passed away or moved far enough away it is difficult to see them.

It's easy to reflect upon lost lovers, friends and close family members.

But

on Thanksgiving I will be thankful for being alive, in decent health, having a job, a new car, even a grand niece who should be born sometime today or tomorrow. Though my friends & remaining family may be scattered all over the country, I can still, thanks to modern technology, keep in touch and spread love & joy that way.

We all have our seasons in the sun, but as Billy Joel sang: "The good old days weren't always good and tomorrow ain't as bad as it seems."

Here's to hoping everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving. Make some new, happy memories.

Since the workers finished up at my place, I've been watching (occasionally) how the work is progressing on down the block.

I suppose someone paid attention to my comment about leaving big holes in the yards.

Now, they open up a hole, do some work, fill it back in...

then open up the same hole the next day to work on whatever some more.

Repeat, repeat, repeat.

Just another way to drag out the job, I suppose.

I've bought an air fryer.

Why (nobody asked)?

Because I got tired of using so much oil to make my home made french fries

and because it's a great compliment to my George Foreman grill.

Quicker, healthier and tastier food.

Now our illustrious leader claims that by being able to release the Covid-19 vaccine that 'Big Pharm' is doing so to help put him out of office.

Here we are, 32 days later since this whole odyssey began...

and I have egg on my face.

While it is true that this company from another city that's contracting the job does work for water companies, they also do other work as well.

Yesterday I reported that (again) little was being done, which has been the norm.

As I was leaving for work, I saw a man standing there with a tube in the ground. The hose was connected to the pole, with the hose going down into the hole. I couldn't see anything down there walking by, but I was hearing a hissing sound.

I thought - "I'll definitely look into this when I get home from work tonight."

Surprise, surprise! When I got home, the hole was filled in and smoothed over, with just a big yellow pole sticking out of the ground.

So today, with no one around, I went out and looked at the pole. Imagine the shock - it said it was a gas line!

Now I know that all of my frustration was for nothing.

You see, the building where I live is total electric. The whole ordeal, aside from a big unsightly hole in the front yard, had nothing to do with me.

My late father's words come back to haunt me. Just as I'm getting ready to say: " I thought...", my dad would say:

"That's what you get for thinking."

Or should I now just say...

Never mind?

Today the workers showed up, took the cover off the big hole, one climbed into the hole (for a minute), then they put a garden hose on the ground, put up more orange cones and (you guessed it) left.

REALLY stretching the work.

This divide in my country is getting worse, not better.

All of this hate is breaking my heart.
