My Dad and I argued a lot. Mom said it was because we were so much alike. We argued over politics (even though we were members of the same political party), sports (although we supported the same teams) and life in general. All of these years later, since he died 25 years ago, I've come to believe that we weren't all that different in our views. We just grew up at different times, which shaped our outlooks on the world around us. Different generations. One thing is for certain, though: If one of us was ever hurting or sad or sick, we were always there for each other. I have tried to live my life as he lived his. Honestly, fairly and lovingly. It's all right to disagree with someone you love. Just make a point of telling them you love them... sometimes between arguments. lol As he lay dying, my last words to him were that I had always loved him. Through his pain, he smiled at me and a tear rolled down his cheek. Happy Father's Day, Dad. We didn't always see eye to eye, but I still love you with all my heart. ~ |
