I don't drink beer either Elle. I take the empty soda can, cut the top off fill it half full with water or broth, add some lemon, rosemary and sage to the liquid and grill as called for. Your's looks grand!!

Try ginger ale...
Ginger ale does GREAT! Some tips... take a toothpick and bind the top neck skin over the top to seal in the juices. Don't forget to lube the can prior to putting it in the bird so it comes out easier. I spray the bird with olive oil spray, salt pepper and garlic powder. Hardly ever cook chicken any other way now.

Yup. It's normally called beer can chicken, but you can use soda/pop, or if you have a empty soup can with water or broth, that works too. It goes into the cavity of the chicken, which helps it stay upright. It gets cooked evenly with the liquid in the can helping to add flavor.

I normally use chicken broth with salt, pepper, and poultry seasoning in the liquid, as well as seasoned under the skin of the chicken. It's a fair bit of work, but worth the effort.
