Americans eating dogs and cats?

As far as know there is cheap junk food available almost everywhere in the U.S. Is it really worth the effort to catch and cook a cat? Or is it just about tradition and quality of the meat?

The pet eating rumor seems to stem ultimately from a black dude (and influencer on social media) saying it. He is a local resident of Springfield, OH, and he made the accusation at a city council meeting or similar meeting.

The bigger problem in Springfield seems to be the Haitians used as cheaper labor, and locals are getting laid off and replaced at half the wage.

There was a newspaper report on that -- and it wasn't a 'newspaper' like Breitbart, it was a real one. MSN news aggregator had it, I think the Yahoo news aggregator had the story too. People are losing their jobs, and Haitians are taking the blame.

I just heard a report on the situation in Springfield OH on ABC Radio News, which contained a rather glowing report on all the employers who love hiring the 21K Haitians at their facilities -- so, yeah, there is a problem there that ISN'T the 'eating of cats and dogs (and geese)' but the antagonism appears to be based on what amounts to outsourcing and replacing American labor directly with migrant labor.

I'm an American and I've never heard of or seen anyone eating cats and dogs anywhere here, if so we wouldn't have an over population of strays lol

Tossed for expressing an opinion? I understand this is a world wide forum but, most places have freedom of speech. To express an opinion like it or not is that persons right. Yelling fire in a crowed room and making threats like trump and his sheep do is not legal in the US and I suspect around the world as well. I will throw this out there... you don't see Democrats making violent threats, crying about losing elections and saying they will be a dictator. I personally believe that trump and his cronies setup the first "attempt" ( my opinion) and there was no second attempt. Secret Service apprehended the idiot before the orange turd got within 500 yards. There are no veiled threats unlike further up , just my opinion. When did Trump threaten someone's life? That's deffo a new one for me.

Freedom of speech doesn't give anyone the right to wish someone dead. If you want to do that, perhaps start your own website.

I don't know about what's happened in Springfield, but, I wouldn't doubt it happens. In the 80's it happened in a neighborhood in NC. In the 90's a restaurant in NC was inspected and cat carcasses were found in the coolers. The reason given was it was for personal consumption. Just a couple months ago an illegal horse butchering business was busted.

First of what is it - they are eating pets or taking jobs?

Regards the pets as I understand it, some lady couldn’t find her cat and posted something on social media about her neighbours who were Haitian eating it. She later found it in the basement and took down her post.

Vance even said he made the story up, but even if he heard from someone else, he should have made sure it was correct.

Both the city and the state have had no complaints.

As for Haitians in Springfield they were encouraged to come to the city to help revive it and that is what has happened.

It’s the stupidity of Trump and Vance in pushing the false narrative that has seen the bomb threats and has the rest of the world wondering just ho fucked up the US is.

Yup. Springfield OH is a classic example of a rustbelt city that was on the decline. Industry dying, young people moving away. Going back to '16 there are stories about them trying to revitalize their city. Recruiting immigrants to work there to help increase an industrial base is absolutely part of their plan and it is working.

But the Trump campaign depends upon activating hatred of "the other" and developing that fear and hate in "normal people."

Neo-Nazi guy makes that cats and dogs claim in a city meeting, it gets amplified in right wing fever swamp media circles and suddenly we have Haitians eating cats and dogs between bouts of them doing voodoo to disable American workers so they can take their jobs

Nothing but propaganda which is, as usual, frighteningly effective...especially for reactionary purposes

That’s laughable! I remember Bush-Gore in 2000. Democrats protested that election all the way to the Supreme Court.
Then there’s the Democrats candidate for Gov. of Georgia. Stacy Abram’s never conceded her loss. Hillary in 2016 and the democrats saying Trump wasn’t their president because he didn’t win the popular vote. There’s more but that’s enough evidence the democrats do protest elections.
